About Supervision

Good supervision should be a place where you can think honestly about your work and feel supported in doing it. I offer a reflective, collaborative space for both individual and group work with counsellors and trainees at every stage, from placement students to experienced practitioners.

I have over 10 years of experience working with young adults at a local college, if you should wish the work to focus in this area.

I draw on three complementary frameworks. Together they keep supervision balanced between developing your practice, safeguarding your clients and looking after you

Proctor's three functions:

Formative: developing your skills, self-awareness and theoretical understanding.
Normative: attending to ethics, professional standards, contracting and client safety.
Restorative: supporting you with the emotional weight of the work, so you can sustain it well.

The seven-eyed model (Hawkins and Shohet). Beyond the case itself, we can look at the client, your interventions, the relationship between you and your client, your own process, the supervisory relationship, and the wider context in which you work. This is especially useful for noticing parallel process, the way dynamics from the therapy room can show up in supervision.

The seven tasks of supervision (Carroll). Supervision is more than case discussion. I work with you across the whole range of supervisory tasks:

Building the supervisory relationship, teaching ,counselling, monitoring professional and ethical issues, evaluating, consulting, attending to administration

I will provide a space to bring difficult cases, ethical dilemmas, uncertainty and guidance in the moments where you feel stuck.
